Heart Institute Researchers at Genesis Medical Center
recently began helping patients suffering from peripheral vascular

Aggressive Treatment Needed for High Cholesterol
Clinical trials show that lowering cholesterol can save the
lives of heart patients and reduce their chances of reoccurrence.
But recent studies conducted at the Genesis Heart Institute show
extraordinary results can be achieved with more aggressive
management of bad cholesterol. Nicolas Shammas, M.D., a clinical and
interventional cardiologist with Cardiovascular Medicine, P.C. and a
member of the Genesis Heart Institute, presented these findings at
the 75th Annual Meeting of the American Heart Association in Chicago
last week. (Posted 11/29/02)
All Digital Cath Lab
Genesis Medical Center's cardiac catheterization labs made a
technological leap November 4 as they switched to a new filmless,
digital imaging technology system. Housed in newly remodeled
and expanded cath labs, the new imaging systems allow cardiologists
to view hard-to-see blood vessels with exceptional clarity under
even the most difficult conditions. "This new technology
enables faster procedures, requires less radiation exposure and
gives us the ability to see details, especially balloons and stents,
better than ever," says cardiologist Eric Dippel, M.D.,
Cardiovascular Medicine, P.C. For the full story please see All
Digital Cath Lab. (Posted 11/06/02)
