Edmund P. Coyne, Jr., M.D.
Chair, Board of Directors
Genesis Heart Institute
Davenport, Iowa


As chair for the board of directors of the Genesis Heart Institute, Dr. Coyne is responsible for leading the Institute in enhancing the delivery of heart care services to the community and improving its outcomes. This includes outreach programs that deliver care to rural, small communities; clinical research that makes innovative drugs, devices and techniques available; and ongoing health professional and community education. He also practices as a cardiologist at Cardiovascular Medicine, P.C., the Quad-Cities' largest cardiology practice. 

Dr. Coyne received his undergraduate training at Boston University and his medical degree from Tufts University in Boston, MA. He completed his Internal Medicine residency in the Department of Medicine at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Boston. While a Major in the Air Force, he completed his Cardiology Fellowship at Wilford Hall U.S.A.F. Medical Center in San Antonio, TX.

In 1990, he became the Medical Director for the Coronary Care Unit at U.S.A.F. Medical Center, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. He joined Cardiovascular Medicine, P.C., in 1992. Since beginning his practice in Davenport, he has held many positions including Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at Genesis Medical Center, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Genesis Heart Institute. He is dedicated to the training of residents and has twice been awarded "Preceptor of the Year" by the Quad Cities Genesis Family Practice Residency Program.

Dr. Coyne is a fellow in the American College of Physicians and the American College of Cardiology. His professional memberships include the Iowa Medical Society, the Scott County Medical Society, and the American Medical Association. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. He is licensed to practice in both Iowa and Illinois, and is available for outpatient consultation and follow-up visits at the Davenport East Rusholme location and DeWitt Community Hospital in DeWitt, IA. He has staff privileges at Genesis Medical Center, Trinity Medical Center and Illini Hospital.

Genesis Heart Institute is a regional network of heart specialists treating patients from more than 12 counties, stretching from Sterling/Rock Falls, IL to Burlington, IA. The Institute serves as a link between heart specialists and other physicians throughout the region, providing patients new advances in detection, treatment and management of heart disease. Last year, these heart specialists saw more than 32,000 patients and performed more procedures at Genesis Medical Center than anywhere in eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
