As medical director for the Genesis Heart Institute, Dr. Roberts is responsible for building upon one of the largest interventional programs in the nation, where many first-in-the-region and some first-in-the-world advances in cardiovascular surgery and heart pacing procedures are offered. It is Dr. Roberts' responsibility to expand the heart care program by building a network of heart specialists, providing increased interaction with referring physicians and aggressively pursuing advancements in the use of innovative technologies and techniques. She also practices as a cardio-thoracic surgeon at Genesis Medical Center.

Dr. Roberts joined Genesis Medical Center in February 2001, coming from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, whose heart center performs the largest volume of open-heart surgeries of any center in the country. Cleveland Clinic's reputation as a world leader in cardiac care and its groundbreaking approaches to treatment of heart failure prompted her to move away from a Kansas City-area practice. From 1991 to 1997, she also served as co-director of Cardiac Surgery Services at Heartland Health Systems in the nearby St. Joseph, MO, where she co-led the start-up of an open-heart program after the merger of two hospitals. 

Dr. Roberts received her medical degree in 1984 from University of Missouri, Kansas City, MO. She completed a residency in general surgery in 1989 at St. Luke's Hospital, in Kansas City, MO, and a residency in thoracic surgery in 1991 at University of Tennessee in Memphis. She has advanced training in complex coronary and cardiac surgery.

Genesis Heart Institute is a regional network of heart specialists treating patients from more than 12 counties, stretching from Sterling/Rock Falls, IL to Burlington, IA. The Institute serves as a link between heart specialists and other physicians throughout the region, providing patients new advances in detection, treatment and management of heart disease. Last year, these heart specialists saw more than 32,000 patients and performed more procedures at Genesis Medical Center than anywhere in eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
